Well known in the international tourism community, Mr. Mercure holds degrees in Hotel Asset Management and in Economics and Finance, from Cornell University in New York and the University of New Hampshire’s Whittemore School of Business and Economics, respectively. He began his career with the Sheraton Group in Boston and Washington, DC, before opening and running his own restaurant in New Hampshire. He then joined Montréal’s Intercontinental Hotel, where he oversaw the establishment’s food and beverage operations, and afterwards, the luxurious Fairmont Royal York in Toronto. While at the prestigious Fairmont Hotels & Resort chain, he played an active role in the development of the Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth in Montréal and the Fairmont Monte Carlo, as Hotel Manager.

Mr. Mercure was General Manager of the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac for 11 years, prior to joining the Palais de congrès de Montréal.

He chairs the board of the Château Frontenac foundation, sits on the boards of Tourisme Montréal and Meetings Mean Business Canada, and is a member of the Aéroports de Montréal community advisory committee.

Since taking over as President and CEO, he has infused the Palais with a new vision in advocacy of Montréal’s unique brand of creativity. A visionary, and very determined, Mr. Mercure keeps adding to the number of innovative initiatives and sustainability commitments aimed at setting the foundation for the convention centre of the future: a creator of unforgettable moments and experiences Montréalers can call their own.
